I have been unable to get any of the 3D wrapping effects to work. The selected photo does not get wrapped, and the resulting image is a blank, white 3D surface with no image whatsoever. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Do you know what image you picked for 3D wrapping? The format (if jpeg, is it a gray scale?), and the size? Try to pick a smaller one. What is your computer spec? Memory? Try to free some other unused applications, or restart your computer.
