|

I have a web page that I created using Notepad. I would like to add a page and have a 3D-Album presentation on it to use as a Christmas card. I can't figure out how to get started. How can I get the presentation over to the web page with all of its html code included. And it will have music in it, also. I have made 3DA presentations in the past and put them on DVD's but I just can't seem to figure out how to get started making a web page. And how will I know how much space the 3DA web page is taking up (I have limited amount of space)
Help?
Thanks

When you do your BUILD, one of the options is to "Create an HTML start page...". This will create all the necessary files and folders for you. You'll have to copy all of them up to your web server. If your web server doesn't support exe and vexe type files, then you'll have to try and get that changed. There are many posts dealing with this subject.
As to how big will it be, once you do the BUILD you can see how big the folder you did the build to is.
Another approach that you can use is to create a WMV file and then upload it to your web server. It is pretty easy to add the html code to run the WMV file. There are postings on that as well. I don't have them bookmarked, but just do a SEARCH on "HTML" and you'll probably find what you're looking for. _________________ Bill

I'm ready to start building my presentation and think I want to go the "Create an HTML start page that includes the presentation" route; however, the User Guide states that "the first time a visitor to your website tries to view your presentation, they will be required to do a onetime download of the free viewer". Is there any way around that? I know if I go to a web page and have to download something to my computer before I can view it, I just skip the whole thing, and am afraid that is what my viewers would do, also.
As an alternative, how does one build a wmv file? I didn't see any place to do that.
Which method would probably take the least space?
Thanks.............Thais |

Hi Thais -
It's been some time since I played with the html feature but it seems to me that one of the issues was timing depending on different computer processing speeds. i.e., photos may not load on another computer as quickly as on your own, etc.
To build a .wmv presentation you need a video editing program - there are several to choose from. You would then pull your converted .mpg or .avi files into that program. I play the music while creating in 3D-album to get an idea of timing but delete it before building and add it later in the video editing program.
All PC users can view .wmv and MAC users can also view them by downloading a plug-in from Windows. .wmv is still not a perfect solution but I personally think it's better than the .html option. |

Thanks, Kat.
I ended up building the presentation as an html start page - have all of the files and folders in a master folder and next step will be to upload all files to web site. Am wondering if I can upload whole folders at a time or if each individual file needs to be uploaded (what a pain that would be). Before I upload it, though, want to know if it will play on others' computers who do not have 3D-Album on their computers.
It is 7.4MB in size, which puts me over my limit but am hoping the ISP won't notice/enforce that.

I've only used two web hosting services and both allow you to load a whole folder - I suspect that's common.
If the file size takes you over your limit, I doubt that anyone will notice -- I'm GUESSING that the files will just stop transferring. I've never run into that problem.
As Bill suggested, you'll need to check with your web service regarding the .exe and .vexe file types -- there are many older posts on .html that you might want to view. Again, just guessing but probably each viewer's computer and isp connection will determine how well the presentation is viewed.
Let us know how you make out. |

I'm stuck.
I uploaded all of my presentation files (image folder, movie folder, class folder, language folder, MyPhoto folder, MySound folder, persistent folder, dir.vspc, start.vexe, 3D-Album.ico, Xmas08.html, Xmas08.vexe). I then typed into the address bar: http://..../..../..../Xmas08.html. That took me to Page Not Found. Then tried http://..../..../...Xmas08.vexe. That took me to Page Not found also.
I am over my head here and don't know what to try next. The presentation worked fine when I played it in the 3D-A program.
Thanks for any help
Thais
I might as well note my actual web page here. It is:
http://www.knology.net/~scroft
So I just added: /Xmas08.html or /Xmas08.htm or /Xmas08.vexe after the ~scroft
For my other, supplemental pages on my site, I just name them: /family.htm or /library.htm , etc. |

Bill:
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I see now what I did wrong - I neglected to show the folder it was in. I should have known that.
It played perfectly until about 3/4 the way thru, I got an IE message: "Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close......." I haven't tried it again but if it continues to do that, do you have an idea of what could be wrong? Seems funny that it would play part way thru and then fail.
Thanks again, Bill. I am so glad you are here. You have bailed me out over and over again
Thais
PS: I meant to ask - will this play on the computer of someone who does not have 3D-A? |

I have replayed the page twice more now with IE and it played fine both times so assume the previous failure was just a glitch.
However, when I tried to play it with Opera, I just got a blank black page with no message, no explanation.
When I tried with Firefox, got message "Additional plugins required to display all media on this page" and when I went to install plugins, got msg "no suitable plugins were found"
So I see now why people who use Firefox as their default browser always say that they still need IE for certain sites.

Thanks, Kat
Talk about great jobs! I just visited your website and it is amazing - so many wonderful photos and videos. I don't know his 'story', of course, but your tribute to Frank brought tears to my eyes.
Think I'll try the .wmv route next time.

Well fiddly, diddly - I'm going to scrap this whole thing and start over to make a .wmv file.
I was at the library today and decided to check my new web page and all it would bring up was "Page not found" or something like that - with both IE and Firefox.
So then I tried accessing it from my laptop (not the computer I created the page on) and
with IE, got msg:"Windows has blocked this software becuse it can't verify the publisher. Name: VaeCtrl.exe
Publisher: Unknown publisher
with Firefox, got msg: "Additional plugins required to display all the media on this page. Click here to download plugins:" When I clicked, got another msg "no suitable plugins were found"
I guess Bill and Kat could access the page because they have 3D-Album on their computers??
Do I need to start COMPLETELY over from the beginning or is there a shortcut way to create a .wmv file from what I've done already?
Thanks
