Here is a company with a wide variety of music styles and themes that you can purchase. Their website address is:

Michael, have you tried any of the products from this company? I downloaded their Movie Maestro trial version. Their music is not compressed and creates a huge file when integrated with slideshow. I created a very small sample show that without music was roughly 6megs. After adding just one of the sample songs it balloned to 160Megs. Is there a way around this. I am interested in this program but would like to hear from other users, if any are on this forum.

The music you downloaded was in .wav format. Wav files are large. I suggest you save your music file in an MP3 format if you wish to reduce the files size. If you are burning to DVD, wav files are best, and with the large capacity of DVD this shouldn't be a problem. Using CD's shouldn't be a problem either, but you be your own judge as each movie file size is dependant on the length and complexity you design in.
If you are making HTML or wmv movies for web download or email transfer, MP3 conversion is a must. Even better, for these purposes I try to use midi whenever I can, as this reduces file size significantly.
For anyone doing a lot of serious music development, I suggest you invest in an audio editing program (like Sound Forge Studio). This tool will help you with audio conversions, fade-ins, shortening/lengthening, pitch, volume, blending, etc.. _________________ Michael Young

Another consideration is that SmartSound is now integrated into Ulead VideoStudio 8. I've also used it in Pinnacle Studio 8. It is nice to have the ability to create a music file to the exact length you need for a movie clip and do it right in the editing program.

I used the music that came with the trial demo. I was not aware that I could save this music in any other format then what was coupled with the program. I save the video and sound as one complete entitiy. Are you saying there is an option regarding audio format?

The option is to use an audio editor to change the wav format to MP3. _________________ Michael Young

I visited the Freeplay web site. I didn't buy any music (yet). I couldn't find their price for CD. However, I did download a music file. It downloaded as an
m4a file. The only thing on my computer that would recognize and play the file was the Quicktime player.
I then did some research on the web and learned that m4a is a version of mp4 which is fairly new and not recognized by most programs. Luckily there is a freebie which can play these files (dbWinamp). Also, you can get a free codec encoder and decoder from the same source. Thus I was able to convert the m4a file to mp3 and use it on any of my programs.

Wow I hadn't noticed that before. I have been right clicking on the mp3 file not the AAC or Preview files. These have all come down as mp3s. I wonder if this is the same quality as the m4a?

According to the experts on the web, m4a or mp4 is not lossy and mp3 is lossy. So they say mp4 is better. To tell the truth I cannot tell any difference. Maybe it is because my hearing is not as good as some other folks. Mp3 sounds plenty good to me and I guess to a lot of others too considering how many mp3 players are sold. But you know technology has to keep moving ahead so they can continue to sell new hardware and software.
As to my recommendation in my previous post, I goofed. The free player and codecs are from dbpoweramp not dbwinamp. There is a Winamp player but it is not the one I downloaded. I have used the dbpoweramp to convert several mp4a files to mp3 and they sound great on my DVD. Also, be aware that there a number of web sites offering "free" music. The catch is that you have sign up for downloading rights at a fee. One sight I checked out charged $1 a month but you had to sign up for 4 years. Another offered their service for .75 cents a month on a 2 year basis. Although the price is reasonable, so far, they don't offer previews of the songs available like SmartSound and Freeplay Music. |

I like http://www.music2hues.com/. They charge $45.00 for a CD, but it comes with a royalty free use license. I sent them an email telling them how I wanted to use their product, and they answered back that my intended use fell within their guidelines. Check out their site for details to see if they might be of any use to you.

When I visit the freeplay site, and click on the Terms of Use link, it talks about what uses are free, and what uses must pay license fees.
